smolder, I went to that Aldi...I was disappointed in their produce this time. I did find a bag of onions luckily

Just a warning...don't head to the Fuquay Aldi specifically for onions. They were a sad, sad lot. Lots of green sprouts growing (on the decent looking ones in the bag) and the rest were moldy. And there were at least two moldy ones in every single bag. Do yourself a favor and pick up your onions elsewhere this week!

    Nakabi - UNI? I've sent you an e-mail. :)

Packy, I'm really glad you have good knives. My sharpener is nothing fancy. It's just a handheld one, and it's probably ten years old, but it does the job.

LAXMom, I always love a great kitchen gadget! Your pineapple corer sounds wonderful. :)

packy-below is a link on how we cup pinapples back home. I thought everyone cut them like this until I came to the US almost 10 years ago and my roommate at uni was amazed by it lol..
The BEST pineapples & mangoes are from East Africa!!!! The Phillipines has some very good pineapples as well!

jdouglas, we actually have decent knives...I just really need to get a good sharperner. :)

The best gadget I have ever owned is a pineapple cutter. I get it at Bed Bath and Beyond (use the coupons that are always available) and it is usually around $8 -$9. It is a tube with a handle at the top and a disc at the bottom (reminds me of those curly q cutters). You cut the top off of the pineapple for a flat surface, line the tube up on the core and start twisting. When you get to the bottom, you pull it out and you have a neatly cut cylinder of pineapple slices. It is so worth it to me instead of trying to slice off the skin.

jdouglas - yes - the $1.99 is the regular price now. It was a little higher (maybe $2.29?) and they lowered it a couple months ago, as I recall.

Thanks, ddalmas :) Going to Aldi's is quite a far trek for me, so I don't get there very often.
