Wow, thewayitis - those pears sound great!

Nakabi - thanks for the pineapple info!

Last week I bought a bag of pears at Aldi, and they are just getting ripe now. Wow, are they good! They are among the best pears I have ever eaten -- I would say they are better than Harry and David -- tangy, but sweet. I bought them because they were smaller than most you find at the store, and I usually prefer smaller fruit to bigger fruit.

Aldi has pineapples for $1.19 each still.

Navy Mom-I cut them in cubes before freezing. Just cut up the pineapple, lay on a cookie sheet, cover with saran wrap, and freeze. This way each cube freezes indivually. Once frozen, put in zip loc bags. Occasionally I will put a little pectin, but not always. It keeps its shape well, tastes almost just as good as fresh, and is great in smoothies or fruit salad! I bought a lot of them because I have numerous baby showers to host the next couple months.

    I knew you ate a lot of fruits...but....WOW! :)

Nakabi - do you freeze whole pinapple or do you slice them up before you freeze?

  • nakabi Oct 10, 2012

lol@Packy-yes, I bought 15:) I didn't grow up eating candy/desserts/sweets and instead grew up eating lots of fruits so that's what my kids are growing up eating. We eat A LOT of fruits and vegetables and freeze a lot of them. Pineapples freeze well and I use them later on when they aren't in season.

Between the grapes this week, the 15 pineapples I bought last week, mangoes, & blueberries, it looks like fruit salad will be on the menu this weekend..YAY!
