RALEIGH, N.C.Alamo Drafthouse Cinema is considering its first North Carolina location in east Raleigh.

Hobby Properties submitted plans for the national theater chain, which is also a restaurant and bar, to the city last week.

The plans call for a 58,000 square-foot cinema at 2000 New Bern Ave. in a building that currently houses Auto Zone and other retailers.

Alamo Drafthouse Cinema was named the "Coolest Movie Theater in the World" by Wired.com and the top theater in America by Entertainment Weekly.

Alamo doesn't show commercials or ads before the lights go down.

"Instead of ads or mind-numbing content named after the number of minutes you have to sit through it if you get to the theater early, we create custom pre-shows with content themed to most of the features we program," according to Alamo's website.

And don't think about using your phone during a movie, the theater boasts zero tolerance for cell phone use and will even kick someone out for breaking the rule.

The theater regularly hosts Quote-Along events, where fans can yell out their favorite lines, and monthly Girlie Night presentations featuring movies like "Dirty Dancing" and "Clueless."

Another new restaurant in Raleigh

Silverplate Properties, owned by James Goodnight, submitted plans last month for a restaurant at 502 W. Lenoir St. The space is currently Dusty's Service Center.

No word on the concept or a projected start date for the building transformation.
