CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Officials at Al's Burger Shack announced plans on Monday to open a second location in Southern Village this summer.
Owners said the new location will be serving up the same Al’s experience as the original Franklin Street restaurant, but with more seating, free parking and an expanded menu.

“It’s been an amazing four years on Franklin Street, and we can't wait to start flipping burgers in Southern Village," said Al Bowers.

The 1,500 square foot restaurant will include 30 seats inside and a large outdoor patio. Owners said the new restaurant's menu will feature some new items, including a turkey burger, a side salad and new types of french fries and beer on tap.

Al’s has been a favorite in Chapel Hill since its 2013 opening, and the restaurant is known for its funky atmosphere and and locally-sourced beef, vegetables and dairy products.

Al's has received "best burger and best fries" accolades in Indy Week and Chapel Hill Magazine and a #1 burger listing on Yelp.

An official open date has not been announced. The new restaurant will be located near Weaver Street Market and Pazzo! in the Southern Village shopping center.
