Wayne County, N.C. — A Seymour Johnson Air Force Base airman was charged Wednesday in the death of his young son, whose body was found Tuesday along a road in Columbus County.
Senior Airman Matthew Theurer was charged with murder, voluntary manslaughter and negligent homicide, according to a spokeswoman with the Air Force Office of Special Investigations. He was held in the Sampson County jail before he was transferred by Air Force personnel.
The spokeswoman said Theurer was in pretrial confinement. She declined to comment further on the case.
Base officials said the boy was also named Matthew.
