Airborne Orange, Wayne Deputies Seize Pot Plants

Posted July 13, 2007

— Two Triangle sheriff's offices grabbed more than 1,200 marijuana plants in two helicopter-aided operations, they said Friday.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office said a National Guard helicopter unit helped drug investigators find and uproot 1,197 plants from several locations in the county Thursday afternoon. Sheriff Lindy Pendergrass said the plants were valued at more than $1 million.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office said its “RAVEN” helicopter found about 50 marijuana plants in four different locations in the county Thursday.

The first location was near the 600 block of Hare Road in Goldsboro. An investigation is continuing into the ownership of those plants.

The second and third locations were in the 4000 block of N.C. 13 South in Goldsboro. The fourth location was near the 6000 block of N.C. 13.

The plants seized, if grown to maturity, could have had a street value of approximately $120,000, the sheriff's office said.

Investigations are continuing in both counties. Neither set of raids brought arrests.

My vote would be yes, if for no other reason than to get law enforcement to start devoting more time to the VIOLENT crimes that are beginning to be a daily occurence in Wayne county.

There are a few companies out there that sell fake pot plants, maybe I will have to get some when I return to NC and see if they can find it.

I'm sorry but I don't follow, you mean they spent "FEDERAL MONEY" to "BUY" the "HELECOPTER" and all the spare parts, "NEVER USED IT", called it "FEDERAL SURPLUS" then "GAVE" it to the county for "FREE" at "NO CHARGE" to the "TAXPAYERS" Yeah!! Ya'll are stupid!!

  • rusty77 Jul 13, 2007

john 283594 for your info RAVEN is flown at NO COST TO TAXPAYERS

On May 11, 1999, the Wayne County Sheriff's Office put into service its first helicopter. Raven, call sign "Air Watch 1", is currently flying missions of drug eradication and providing air support to all other divisions of the Sheriff's Office as needed. This aircraft was obtained through the federal surplus program at NO cost to the county taxpayers. Spare parts support is handled through this same program. To date, "Raven" has been very beneficial in drug eradication, searches, pursuits, manhunts, photography and support for other agencies in and out of Wayne County. During the 500 year flood in 1999, "Raven" took our deputies and EMS to places that would have impossible to safely reach by any other means of transportation.

those plants would never have brought in $2500 each. The yield is not there for plants produced outside in this area. Might see that out of some good BC bud

  • hemp4victory Jul 13, 2007

WOW, That's really heavy, What a bummer man!

  • blackdog Jul 13, 2007

My God ! $2500 per plant. Seems everyone would like to make that kind of money from one plant of any kind. How Big are those things ?
