Goldsboro, N.C. — Authorities on Wednesday charged an Air Force sergeant stationed at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base with sex crimes against a minor.
Tech. Sgt. Jeremiah William Powers, a member of the 4th Equipment Maintenance Squadron at the base, was charged with statutory sex offense, indecent liberties with a child and disseminating harmful material to a minor.
A Wayne County family called authorities on Jan. 18 to report a possible sexual assault against a child. Investigators arrested Powers after a 10-day investigation. They released no information about the age or gender of the child.
"This allegation is of a very serious nature and has been handled appropriately," Seymour Johnson officials said in a statement. "The Air Force will and has cooperated fully with Wayne County Sheriff's Office to ensure due process of the law and a thorough investigation into (the) allegations. ... Specific actions of the Air Force will depend on the results of the investigation."
