RALEIGH, N.C. — The first day of an afternoon drawing saw sales soar for the North Carolina Education Lottery. Sales for the "Carolina Pick 3" were up 30 percent over last Monday, when just one drawing was held.

Lottery executive director Tom Shaheen said Tuesday that lotteries in other states generally have seen a 5 percent to 9 percent increase following the introduction of a midday drawing.

The midday drawing is available live on WRAL.com at 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The evening drawing happens nightly at 11:22 p.m.
