DURHAM, N.C. — The African Children's Choir from Uganda is on tour across the US and made a stop in Durham Friday night.

Their spiritually uplifting performance made the African Children's Choir a crowd favorite in the Triangle.

The choir is composed of 7- to 10-year olds from Uganda.

The choir's musical legacy began 30 years ago, with the Choir's founder, Ray Barnett. He was working in Uganda during the Civil War.

Reverend Dr Wayne Williams said the choir's message is inspiring to the local community.

"What can I do in the Raleigh-Durham area to make life better for any and everybody," Williams said.

The First African Children's Choir first performed in the United States in 1884. The choir has educated more than 50,000 children over the years.

They're on tour for eight months, and their next North Carolina stop is in Hickory.
