<b>FUQUAY-VARINA, N.C.</b> — When Afghanistan war veteran Cpl. Nathan Jakubisin and his family move into their new home this fall, they will be surrounded – literally – with messages of love, encouragement and thanks from the people who have helped build it. 

Some of those special thoughts were written on the frame of the home Wednesday morning, when about 40 employees of Centex, a Triangle-area home builder, put down their tools and picked up pens for a couple of hours. 

Jakubisin, a native of Cambridge, Ohio, deployed to Afghanistan in January 2012.

Shortly after his arrival, Jakubisin suffered severe leg and hand injuries when an improvised explosive device went off as he conducted patrols in the Helmand Province. He received a Purple Heart for his service.

Jakubisin, his wife, Marli, and their son, Mason, will move into the new home this fall. 

The home, which is being provided mortgage-free by the PulteGroup's <a href="https://twitter.com/BuiltToHonor" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Built to Honor program</a>, is a collaborative effort between the Home Builders Association of Raleigh-Wake County and Operation: Coming Home, a nonprofit organization that honors disabled combat veterans who have served in the Middle East.

The Built to Honor program has constructed 12 homes since starting in 2013, and there are nine currently under construction.
