Additional warrant, bond placed on suspect from Pa.

ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C. — The woman arrested in connection with the shooting a Roanoke Rapids police officer last week saw her charges and bond increased Wednesday.

Renee Michelle Phillips, 43, of Southampton, Pa., was arrested Thursday and charged with accessory after the fact of attempted murder, possession of a stolen firearm and possession of a stolen vehicle.

Her bond was initially set at $800,000 bond.

On Wednesday, Pennsylvania authorities added a fugitive warrant and an additional $50,000 bond.

Phillips and her boyfriend, Michael Eugene Edgerton, 38, were wanted on vehicle theft and parole violation charges in Pennsylvania when the were stopped on Interstate 95 by Roanoke Rapids police officer John Taylor.

Police said Edgerton shot Taylor, then the pair hid overnight amid a multi-agency manhunt.

Edgerton was found, dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Phillips was arrested shortly thereafter.

Taylor was in stable condition Wednesday at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville, police said.
