— An actor who starred in the 1996 Adam Sandler movie "Happy Gilmore" was charged Wednesday with driving drunk in downtown Wilmington, according to State Highway Patrol officials.

Christopher McDonald, 58, is charged with driving while impaired. Troopers said McDonald's blood-alcohol level was 0.15, almost twice the 0.08 level at which drivers are considered impaired under state law.

McDonald was taken into custody at about 1:45 a.m. on Third Street, according to the Wilmington Star-News. He was released on a $1,000 unsecured bond.

McDonald starred in "Happy Gilmore" as Shooter McGavin. Recently, he has appeared in the HBO series "Boardwalk Empire."

What? an "actor" doing something basically degenerate? I thought they were our inspiration! Our pedestal heroes...they speak and we should follow their hallowed lead because they know what's best for us. I mean, they buy, er, support, elected officials so we can have a perfect life. And to think this one has feet of clay...tsk, tsk, tsk.

$1,000 unsecured bond for DWI at 2X the legal limit? That's a celebrity justice rate. Wilmington is very generous to the entertainment industry.
