Man dies in southeast Raleigh shooting

Officers were dispatched to a shooting at the intersection of Paint Rock Lane and Barren Lane at about 8:30 p.m. Upon arrival, officers found a man with gunshot wounds.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Police are looking for the shooter in the death Monday night of a man in southeast Raleigh.

Officers were dispatched to the intersection of Paint Rock Lane and Pine Barren Lane at about 8:30 p.m. Upon arrival, officers found a Marcus Trevon Howard, 24, with gunshot wounds.

Howard was taken to WakeMed and died early Tuesday.

In a 911 call, a man can be heard saying that he and Howard were walking home from McDonald's when shots were fired. Halfway through the call, the man said that Howard stopped breathing and was instructed by the 911 dispatcher to begin chest compressions.

Police said that an investigation is underway and the search for a suspect was ongoing.
