Ackland Art Museum seeks father-daughter pairs for exhibit

The dads and daughters would be part of a piece created by artist Lee Walton called "Father and Daughter View the Exhibition." As part of the piece, Walton will arrange for one father and daughter pairing to view "More Love" each day from 4 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., throughout the run of the exhibition. "More Love," which features 52 works of contemporary art, runs from Feb. 1 to March 31.

Participants in "Father and Daughter" will casually and naturally view the exhibition and exit the museum at exactly 4:30 p.m. They will not be outwardly identified ― by the Ackland Art Museum or the artist ― in any way, according to the press release. A total of 43 participant pairs of all ages will perform the piece.

Here's more about the exhibit from the release from Ackland:"'Father and Daughter View the Exhibition' frames everyday shared experiences between people, celebrating them as actions and gestures of love. While the performance is a formalized, anticipated, and constructed action, it also provides an 'actual' art experience for two individuals, carved out from daily life and taking place inside a museum. In this way, 'Father and Daughter View the Exhibition' obscures the lines between life and performance, and engages museum viewers by elevating the quotidian into spectacle."

"These performances are just like real, everyday life. No acting or exaggeration is involved. I want the fathers and daughters to just be themselves," Walton said in the press release. "Often, my daughter and I will visit an art exhibition. I want to frame this experience itself as an artwork because going to a museum together is always an unforgettable and unpredictable event."

It definitely will make for a memorable visit to the museum for the dads and daughters who are a part of this.
