Accident closes U.S. 501 North in Durham County

Posted July 23, 2008

— Both lanes of U.S. 501 northbound are closed north of the City of Durham due to an overturned truck.

An asphalt truck overturned Wednesday morning and began leaking hydraulic fluid onto the roadway just after 9:30 a.m. Hazardous materials crews were on the scene.  The Department of Transportation expects the closure to last through mid-afternoon.

Detours are posted, and drivers are urged to avoid the area if possible.

Luckily this clown didn't kill anyone. Until the police start enforcing vehicle and traffic codes in NC things like this will happen every day. Drivers in this state are the worst in the country. Tailgating, no signals, speeding, unsafe lane changes, and on and on, the worst state I have ever seen. They all think they are NASCAR qualified. I have lived in 8 US states (including NYC and Boston), and 2 other countries. Hands down, this is the place with the worst drivers.

Might be nice to know how far north of Durham if the article were to actually help us avoid it, ya think? How about naming an intersecting road that might be close to the accident.
