About that nonpartisan Supreme Court race

Published: 2012-10-30 11:14:00

We're told that our state court races are nonpartisan, including the contest for state Supreme Court where Justice Paul Newby is running for re-election against Court of Appeals Judge Sam Ervin IV.

Newby and Ervin both raised a little over $300,000 on their own for their races. But as we've talked about before, Newby has received the backing of the N.C. Justice Coalition, a group run by former Republican Party Chairman Tom Fetzer.

The coalition itself has gotten quite a bit of money from something called Justice for All NC, another PAC with ties to Republicans. Newby is a Republican, Ervin is a Democrat.

Tucked away in Justice for All's campaign donations: $560,000 from the Republican State Leadership Committee.

About that nonpartisan court race...

I'll be writing more on the race for Supreme Court later today.

And the Trolls can go back under their bridges after screaming "OFF WITH THEIR HEADS" about the donation reportedly coming from the NORTH CAROLINA REPUBLICAN PARTY, incorrectly.
