Aberdeen woman charged in dog starvation death

An Aberdeen woman is facing felony charges after authorities said she left two dogs tied up and starving on her property.

ABERDEEN, N.C. — An Aberdeen woman is facing felony charges after authorities said she left two dogs tied up and starving on her property.

Latasha Rachele Harrison, 31, of the 100 block of Shady Pine Way, is charged with one count of felony cruelty to animals and one count of felony killing an animal by starvation, the Moore County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday.

Sheriff Lane Carter said his office worked with Moore County Animal Control officers to investigate a complaint received Feb. 1 about a two dogs that appeared to be tied and starving at the residence. Deputies said one of the dogs had died by the time investigators arrived, and the other was taken to the Moore County Animal Shelter for treatment.

The investigation resulted in Harrison’s arrest Wednesday.

Harrison was held in the Moore County Detention Center under a $5,000 secured bond. She is scheduled for a court appearance Feb. 21 in Moore County District Court.
