— An abandoned hotel on Fayetteville's Easter Boulevard caught fire Monday afternoon.

Given the condition of the building at 318 S Eastern Blvd., firefighters were taking precautionary measures but allowed the fire to burn. Authorities said the hotel had been closed for several years. No injuries have been reported.

I know of that place. It was condemned for years. If there was one place that needed to burn down, that was it. It was a definite eyesore.

"I wouldn't set foot in that city without wearing a Kevlar vest."

I am sorry you have to go through life in such constant, irrational fear. Here's hoping you get the help you need.

""Authorities said the hotel had been closed for several years."

And the health department there did nothing to condemn it and get it gone? WTHeck?

Same thing happens in Harnett County where there are probably thousands of abandoned buildings and trailers that should have been condemned and trashed long ago.

What will it take? A child to get hurt playing in one of them??"

If the building is abandoned, then who is going to pay to have it razed? You can't just knock it down into a pile, you have to remove the debris. Again, who is going to pay for it? Do you expect the owner who already can't afford to keep the place open? Maybe the city can pay for it with your taxes?

The place had been condemned, which was the reason the fire department let it burn.

Obamacare you are a piece of work. Us hard working law abiding citizens of Fayetteville love your comments about our city. Would love to know what city you live in that has absolutely no crime! Must be a great place! Oh and enjoy your obamacare

As old as that motel probably was, I'm sure it was full of asbestos as was the smoke filled air which permeated the city of Fayetteville. One more reason to absolutely love this place.

...just because it has been abandoned is no reason to condemn a property. It has to be unsafe or structurally unsound.
