Missing teen's case to go to prosecutors, police chief says

Chief Joe Williams did not say exactly when that might be or whether they have any suspects in the Feb. 22, 2010, disappearance of Jalesa Reynolds, 18.

He did say that, although the Reynolds' disappearance is still classified as a missing persons case, authorities think foul play was involved.

Reynolds was last seen using a public computer at the Scotland Neck Memorial Library, and investigators traced her Internet activity to a home on Cemetery Road, about two miles away.

Since the disappearance, authorities have searched the area several times. They returned this week with several specialized search teams, as well as archaeology students from East Carolina University.

Williams said the latest search was not the result of any new tips in the case.

"It's been extremely frustrating," Williams said. "It's been two years."

It's also been difficult for Reynolds' family, including her mother, Bernice Reynolds.

She said Friday that she remains hopeful that her daughter will come home.

"I'm just praying to God, hoping for the best," she said.

Although police haven't commented on a possible suspect in the disappearance, an August 2011 search warrant for a home on Cemetery Road identifies a man, Dwayne Davis, as a suspect in a case involving a missing girl from the Scotland Neck area.

Although the warrant doesn't name Reynolds, police have said that, at the time, there were no other girls in Scotland Neck who have been reported missing.

Davis could not be reached for comment Friday.
