If you’ve spent your fair share of time sitting at McLaren’s Pub with your favorite gang of New Yorkers (OK, and a Canadian, too, I suppose), you’ll find this news more than a little exciting: A “How I Met Your Mother” spinoff is currently in the works. I repeat, a “How I Met Your Mother” spinoff is currently in the works. This is not a drill.

According to Deadline, 20th Century Fox TV will soon be taking its third stab at creating a spinoff of the popular series, which aired its final episode in 2014. (Do you feel old yet? I feel old.) Since then, the network has tried several times to bring the show back to life: “How I Met Your Dad” was first floated in 2013, with Greta Gerwig in the lead role and a list of executive producers who had worked on the original “How I Met Your Mother,” but CBS turned the show down in 2014.

Following that, “How I Met Your Father” was discussed, but the writers on the project ultimately ended up working on the TV show “This Is Us” instead.

Fox isn’t giving up on the spin-off, however. Fox chairman Dana Walden told Deadline recently that the new spinoff would be written by a fresh crew of writers and would contain a brand new plot.

“They will be starting from scratch,” she said. “It's one that's been slowly cooked. If it's the right idea the right execution, we'll take that.”

Clearly, these are still the early days, and writers still haven’t been selected for the new spinoff, so don’t get your hopes up too high just yet. (After all, this could be the third unsuccessful spinoff attempt.) However, I personally think this is a great excuse to go rewatch all nine seasons of “How I Met Your Mother” again. You know, just to be prepared!
