Raleigh, N.C. — Lots of openings to talk about this week.
The long-awaited reopening of Hibernian Pub on Glenwood Avenue is here! The restaurant and bar will open from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. with a limited menu on Saturday for their St. Baldrick's Shave-a-Thon with Napper Tandy's, press representatives said. It will reopen from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. Tuesday through Thursday next week with a limited menu. On Friday (March 7), they plan to open at 11 a.m. and resume their normal menu and all day service. The Hibernian closed in December 2012 after what appeared to be a grease fire. This new location boasts a rooftop bar and two-levels of dining.
Tazza Kitchen opened its doors for dinner in Cameron Village. This Baja meets Mediterranean restaurant is in the spot formerly occupied by Cafe Caturra.
Waffle House opened Thursday in the Mission Valley shopping center off of Western Boulevard near WRAL. It is located next to the Planet Smoothie and Schoolkids Records.
Another Broken Egg in North Hills is holding a special pre-opening event to benefit local nonprofits this weekend. Through Saturday, you can make a reservation to dine there. Instead of paying for the meal, the restaurant is taking donations for a different nonprofit each day. They officially open to the public on March 3.
Driftwood Southern Kitchen should be opening any day now in Lafayette Village in Raleigh. Bloggers Triangle Food Guy and Triangle Explorer reported that a soft opening was happening this week, so it is only a matter of time now.
Fonda Y Birrieria Jalisco on Ronald Drive in Raleigh is rebranding itself, according a poster on the Chowhound message board. They are changing the name to Los Tres Vaqueros. (Note: Previous reports of their closing were inaccurate.)
One more closing from Triangle Food Guy - Champs at Triangle Town Center in north Raleigh.
Cary's Waverly Place will be getting a new breakfast/brunch/lunch spot. Charlotte-based franchise Toast Cafe plans to open there by early June, according to the N&O.
Smashburger is planning to open its first Triangle location in Durham on March 12, according to a press release. Located off of Erwin Road, this franchise is known for their burgers, chicken and milkshakes like the salted caramel one I keep hearing about!
A new Moroccan restaurant has opened in Cary. Atlas Mediterranean Cuisine is located on Kildaire Farm Road in the old Pizza Hut building, according to the News and Observer.
Soo Cafe and Korean Barbecue has reopened in its new location in the Stonybrook Shopping Center off of Capital Boulevard in north Raleigh. They used to be on Hillsborough Road. The News and Observer reports that they hope to start serving beer and wine soon.
Taverna Agora is relocating this summer from Glenwood Avenue to Hillsborough Street in Raleigh, The Triangle Business Journal is reporting.
A reminder retro candy and soda shop Rocket Fizz,, near Trader Joe's on Kildaire Farm Road in Cary, is holding its grand opening celebration Saturday.
Chipotle Mexican Grill and PDQ are expected to open in mid-March in Durham's Gateway Terrace development, according to Triangle Food Guy and The Herald Sun. This summer, Freddy's Frozen Custard and Steakburgers and Jimmy Johns are expected to open there.
Ed Mitchell is hoping to open his new restaurant Que in the Diamond View III building on the American Tobacco Campus in Durham around April 1 just in time for the Durham Bulls season opener, according to The News and Observer.
