Restaurants, bars plan rooftop eclipse parties

The solar eclipse will be happening Monday, Aug. 21, and several Triangle area restaurants and bars are planning parties.

RALEIGH, N.C. — The solar eclipse will be happening Monday, Aug. 21, and several Triangle area restaurants and bars are planning parties.
In the Triangle, peak solar eclipse viewing will be around 2:45 p.m., that day. About 93 percent of the sun will be covered by the moon. If you plan to watch it, you will need to wear NASA-approved eclipse glasses.

Rooftop Parties (Reservations recommended)

Unscripted Durham (202 Corcoran St., Durham) - Watch the eclipse from this new hotel's rooftop bar and patio. The viewing party solar eclipse glasses and themed drinks.
Taverna Agora (326 Hillsborough St., Raleigh) - This Hillsborough Street restaurant has a great rooftop and it will be open for the eclipse on Monday.
Solas (419 Glenwood Ave, Raleigh) - This Glenwood Avenue bar will be opening at noon for its rooftop party so you can lounge and enjoy a few drinks before the eclipse.
Raleigh Beer Garden (614 Glenwood Ave. Raleigh) - With hundreds of beers on tap and a nice rooftop patio bar, this will be a great place to watch the eclipse. You can also partake in an eclipse party in the venue's field from 2 to 4 p.m.
Hibernian (311 Glenwood Ave., Raleigh) - Head to this Irish pub's rooftop for an eclipse viewing party starting at 1:30 p.m.
The Durham Hotel (315 E. Chapel Hill St., Durham) - This is a great rooftop to view the eclipse and viewing glasses will be free with the purchase of a coffee, soda or cosmic cocktail from 2 to 4 p.m. Admission is free.
10th and Terrace (616 S. Salisbury St., Raleigh) - You can view the solar eclipse from atop the Residence Inn in downtown Raleigh from 1:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. Admission is $10 and includes a Sunshine energy drink, desserts from lucettegrace and NASA-approved eclipse safety glasses.

Patio Parties (Reservations recommended)

Xoco Raleigh (410 Glenwood Ave., Raleigh) - This Mexican restaurant will host a patio party starting at 1:30 p.m.
Watts and Ward (200 S. Blount St., Raleigh - This underground bar will open at 1:30 p.m. on eclipse day for a party on its outdoor patio.
The Station (701 N. Person St., Raleigh) - The outdoor patio party starts at this restaurant and bar at 1:30 p.m.
Doyle Vineyards (8913 NC Highway 751, Durham) - Gates will open at 11 a.m. for this viewing party. There will be a food vendor, desserts, wine, beverages, sangria and more for purchase. Bring a blanket and lawn chair and enjoy the fun. Pets are welcome and admission is free.
Also, Sheetz is planning an eclipse viewing party at 7513 Ramble Way in Raleigh. From 2 p.m. until 3 p.m., there will be free food and drink samples. Up to 100 pairs of NASA approved glasses will also be provided.
