Expect a sense of tradition and camaraderie when you walk through the doors of The Players' Retreat. Locals refer to this establishment as the PR. It's been called that since it opened in 1951 by Bernie and Mickey Hanula.

Known for their burgers and brew, the PR uses only black Angus beef…ground on site. They even give you the option to order it rare (you can slap a fresh sticker on that one). But can they get any fresher? Oh yes…a seafood selection that's never frozen. That's a PR promise!

Burgers not your thing? The PR's full menu features sandwiches, pasta, pizza pies, steak, chili, soups, salads and a solid selection of vegetarian options. If you can handle more, the PR serves up a satisfying brunch experience on Sundays. But breakfast is more than just a Sunday experience, so the PR kindly offers their "Late Night" menu Thursday through Saturday nights. Three words: breakfast for dinner.

Winner of the 2010 Wine Spectator Award of Excellence (they've got more than 75 wines by the glass), the PR's full bar serves up a classic selection of beverages to quench all thirsts.

I'll try my best to justify my two stars for them. So long story short, I stopped by with a group of friends after work a few weeks ago. It was about 11pm,... (more)

First legal beer bought there in 1967. Have loved that Gus has kept the same "ambiance" but expanded the menu, likker and wine choices. Diverse clientele. Service can be plus/minus at busy times but bill has always be 100% even with 4-5 couple scattered around a big table.

Not sure why the complaint about the price of the burgers. Looked and same as Applebees and Five Guy plus fresh ground and cooked to order, 48 years eating at the PR and hope to be many more.
