Combining Jazz, Blues, Rock n Roll, R&B and Hip-Hop, the band presents a transformative series that
seeks to peel back the layers of appropriation and commercial perversion to translate the roots of black music – from Louis Armstrong, James Brown to A Tribe Called Quest – according to the unifying rhythms at the core of the culture.
Artists such as Esperanza Spalding, Nicholas Payton and Bilal have joined the band in honoring the classic compositions and innovators that have served as the heartbeat of the sound. Spanning genre and generation, Igmar Thomas & the Revive Big Band presents a body of work reflective of their collective reverence of the standard and unabashed sonic freedom.
