“Bill and his family have been through so much,” says brother Rob Ladd, who is organizing the event and will be drumming for The Connells. “Our goal is to help them through this time and also to bring awareness to colon cancer and the importance of being screened.”
Ladd was diagnosed with stage 4 colorectal cancer last fall and has been undergoing chemotherapy and radiation and recently had an operation to remove part of his intestines. While long-term prognosis is good, the medical costs are substantial. An initial gofundme.com campaign raised nearly $40,000 this fall and a second campaign has just begun. The Connells first turned heads in the late 80s with their debut Darker Days before gaining national and international acclaim for a series of releases through the 1990s. The band continues to perform regionally with most of its original line-up. Locals The Roman Spring concoct dreamy Americana-tinged pop and feature ex-members of Colourslide, Dillon Fence, Cravin’ Melon, The Veldt and Parklife. Arrow Beach is a new band featuring former members of What Peggy Wants, Hobex, Stratocruiser and Marat.
