The Durham Community Chorale is a Research Triangle area group of people who share the love of singing. Our members include professionally trained singers as well as those who have no public singing experience. Membership in the Chorale is open to all adults in the Triangle area. The mission of the Durham Community Chorale is to provide a focus on music for the purpose of enlightening, educating, and exposing the participants and community to a variety of choral music through public performances.
The Durham Community Chorale was founded in 1987 under the direction of Bob Estes. The Chorale offers people in the community an opportunity to perform a variety of quality chorale literature. The Chorale involves students from public and/or private schools as a means of educating the students and Chorale participants in proper choral and performance techniques.
Since 2002 the Chorale has been under the direction of Melody Zentner. Melody has a Bachelor of Music Degree from Ithaca College School of Music and her permanent certification in Music Education through Crane School of Music. Melody studied voice under Evelyn Hertzman-Klepinger and Dr. Leslie Bennett. She has been a soprano soloist for the Saratoga-Potsdam Choral Institute and in many musicals. She is retired from teaching but keeps busy directing 3 area choirs.
