Duke dorm room destroyed by fire

A small fire was reported at Duke University's Brown Residence Hall Thursday evening.

DURHAM, N.C. — A Duke University dorm room was destroyed by fire Thursday evening.

Firefighters were called to Brown Residence Hall on Duke's East Campus at 7:39 p.m., fire officials said. They arrived to heavy smoke on the third floor and found a dorm room on fire.

The fire, which was contained to the room, was extinguished in less than 15 minutes.

The room and its contents were destroyed, officials said. Three other rooms suffered smoke damage.

No injuries were reported. Fire officials are investigating the cause.
