Christmas shoppers take on challenge of final weekend

RALEIGH, N.C. — 'Twas the weekend before Christmas and all through the mall were procrastinators both short and tall. Some shopped for hours, others were pretty quick.  Some talked a lot, others were quiet like Lucas Hamrick.

He was among many shoppers caught up in the last-minute frenzy Saturday at Triangle Town Center in Raleigh.

Even those who came equipped with a prepared gift list found the first task was to find a parking spot. Charmayne Heyward parked about two or three blocks away before venturing inside to brave the crowds to shop for her teenage son.

"He's always on the naughty list, but I had to get him something," she said. "It's a good little haul.

Those who still have shopping to do will need patience. Many stores will have extended hours through Christmas Eve, but as the clock ticks, more and more procrastinators will head to the stores.

"Plan ahead, and be ready to wait. Eat a good lunch. Have a glass of water and your walking shoes ready," one shopper recommended.
