— Angelo Grayson Smith Jr., the boyfriend of missing Charlotte teacher and Garner native Bianca Tanner, was arrested near Chicago by the U.S. Marshals Service on Thursday.

Smith was wanted for contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile, said Charlotte-Mecklenburg police spokesman Robert Tufano, who added that the charge is related to Tanner's three-year-old son.

As of Thursday afternoon, Smith was not named a suspect in Tanner’s disappearance.

Smith reported Tanner missing on June 8, saying she was intoxicated when leaving their shared Charlotte home.

A police search at their apartment turned up a belt, cellphones and evidence of blood. Tanner's son told detectives his mother's boyfriend "hurt mommy in the face," search warrants said.

Court records show Smith has a history of domestic violence, including restraining orders from two women.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Rodney Monroe said the case is being treated as a homicide. Tanner has not been found as of Thursday.

Tanner, 31, grew up in Garner and lived in Greensboro before moving to Charlotte, where she was hired to work on a special project to improve educational opportunities for eight schools.

Sadly, those same victims think they can 'change' the abuser if they just love them enough, smile at them enough, and on and on and on......I really do feel sad for those who get abused and keep going back. Some feel like they have not choice also. And it doesn't matter how smart the victim is......

Chicago? While they have this man locked up, I hope they are checking the evidence to prove he was the one involved. Don't want her killer to get away with it. I sincerely believe he is the one to have taken her life. She is missing, but if she was alive, she would have notified someone by now, don't you think. She is out there somewhere and I prayed for her son and family and friends she will be found. Of course he knows but he is not talking. Well yet.

There is only one permanent solution for a domestic abuser! They don't change - they just continue saying "I'm sorry" until the next time. Surviving victims need to remember this.
