RALEIGH, N.C. — Police on Monday identified the man found dead in a crash Sunday morning shortly after shots were fired outside an east Raleigh restaurant.

Travion Malikah Ragland, 18, was found shot to death in an overturned vehicle near the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Poole Road at about 3:20 a.m. Sunday.

Several minutes earlier, police received a 911 call about shots fired at a Cook-Out restaurant less than 2 miles away, at the intersection of New Bern Avenue and Tarboro Street.

The caller told a 911 dispatcher that four men in a silver PT Cruiser with a handicapped license plate fired shots in the air in the restaurant parking lot and might have even shot out the car's back window before speeding away.

"They had gotten into an altercation with some other males here, and they wanted to fight," the caller said. "They came back with a gun and hopped out of the car. We got them to get back into the car, and as they were leaving the parking lot, they let off shots."

No one was injured in the shooting, and no other vehicles in the parking lot were damaged, he said.

Someone who lives near the site of the wreck called 911 to report that people were running from the overturned vehicle.

"The boys are running in the woods, and they're leaving the car," the caller said. "I just didn't want the guys to get too far. They're in the woods, and where they're going from there, I don't know."

Police are investigating a possible link between the two incidents, but no arrests had been made as of Monday.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 919-834-4357 or visit www.raleighcrimestoppers.org to report a tip by text or email.
