911 callers: It sounds like 'a shoot-out'

Posted September 9, 2010

— Callers told 911 dispatchers that it sounded like a "shoot-out" was erupting on Delano Street in Durham early Sunday.

Police said that someone opened fire on a crowd of about 70 people attending party at a house at 1102 Delano St. around 4 a.m. Seven men and one woman, ranging in age from 19 to 45, were injured, including two seriously.

A woman who called 911 said that, "We're having a shoot-out down here on Delano Street."

A second woman who called 911 said that it sounded like two different guns were being fired.

When asked how many shots were fired, she responded, "Like a bunch."

Police said the residence was being used as a "liquor house," which is slang for a place that sells and serves liquor without a license or permit.

No arrests have been made.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 919-683-1200. Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards for information leading to arrests in felony cases, and callers never have to identify themselves.

    "911 callers: It sounds like 'a shoot-out'"

Now that is funny. You live in Durham. You should know what a shoot out sounds like.

tjhiggs68 don't assume the police knew it was a liquor house it states that the police stated it was being used as a liquor hous. NOT a known liquor house. Don't assume just as you don't want others to assume Durham is a terrible place. Where this happens every day.Prayers for a speedy recovery for the victims.

Re: a 1600 foot house with 70 people? Wonder if the landlord knew what was going on!

The owner looks to be a pretty big slum lord. I doubt that these are things are really cared about. Which is a big part of the problem.

If Durham Police knew this was a known liquor house, why did they allow it to remain open? This sort of thing does NOT happen everyday in Durham, it just happens to be an isolated incident. It amazes me how certain events that happen here, tend to get overplayed as if we are living in the Wild Wild West...It's a crime to even allow illegal liquor houses, so why was this one not shut down already?

Read the papers. This sort of thing is not an everyday event in Durham AND does not only happen in Durham.

    AND it shouldn't happen ANYwhere.

Durham haters, please find something more productive and/or original to do with your time.

why are you still putting up stories about this, wral? it was a liquor house; all 70 people there were breaking the law. plus, it's durham; this happens every day and still, no one cares...
