A 9-year-old boy has died after being hit by a vehicle Monday night in Norfolk.

NORFOLK, VA — A 9-year-old boy has died after being hit by a vehicle Monday night in Norfolk.

Police say around 9:40 p.m. police were called to the 3100 block of Sewells Point Road and Kennebeck Avenue for a motor vehicle accident involving a child riding a bicycle.

Upon arrival, police found young boy lying in the street after being stuck by a car. Police say the preliminary information has revealed the boy was riding his bike on the sidewalk when he suddenly lost control and veering into the roadway where he was hit by a vehicle traveling southbound on Sewells Point Road.

The boy was rushed to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with life threatening injuries and later died. He has been identified as 9-year-old Bryan Perdomo-Henriques of the 3800 block of Peterson Street.

The Norfolk police fatality team is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.

Police say the adult male driver remained on scene and no other injuries were reported.
