Fayetteville, N.C. — An 8-year-old girl hit by an SUV last week in Fayetteville has died, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol said Friday.
Investigators said LaMiya McLaughlin suffered serious injuries around 2:45 p.m. last Friday afternoon when she ran out ahead of her mother and tried to cross the road to a friend's house near the intersection of Cedar Creek and Tabor Church roads, just east of Fayetteville.
A Honda Odyssey hit the girl.
LaMiya was a second-grader at Seabrook Elementary School in Fayetteville.
The driver of the Honda was not charged in the case, the Highway Patrol said.
