8-year-old dies from injuries after being hit by SUV

Posted November 21, 2014

— An 8-year-old girl hit by an SUV last week in Fayetteville has died, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol said Friday.

Investigators said LaMiya McLaughlin suffered serious injuries around 2:45 p.m. last Friday afternoon when she ran out ahead of her mother and tried to cross the road to a friend's house near the intersection of Cedar Creek and Tabor Church roads, just east of Fayetteville.

A Honda Odyssey hit the girl.

LaMiya was a second-grader at Seabrook Elementary School in Fayetteville.

The driver of the Honda was not charged in the case, the Highway Patrol said.

Meanwhile, in the bigger scheme of things, a child still lost her life to a horrible accident.

So sorry for the family. Why does it need to be a SUV, or pick up truck. Why can't it just be a vehicle?

An Odyssey is not an SUV. It's a minivan.
