8 hurt in Moore County wreck

Eight people were hurt in a two-vehicle crash Sunday morning between Carthage and Whispering Pines.

CARTHAGE, N.C. — Eight people were hurt Sunday in a two-vehicle crash between Carthage and Whispering Pines.

The crash occurred at the intersection of Niagara-Carthage Road and Farm Life School Road around 10 a.m.

Four adults and four children were injured. Firefighters used specialized rescue tools to remove the door of one of the vehicles to free the injured driver.

One adult female was airlifted to a trauma center. Three adults and two children were transported to FirstHealth Hospital in Pinehurst by ambulance with injuries that were reported to be not life-threatening. Two of the children were transported by a family member in a private vehicle.

Niagara-Carthage Road was closed to traffic for about one hour while the injured were assisted and the wrecked vehicles were removed from the roadway.

Responding to the accident were units with Whispering Pines Fire Rescue, Carthage Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff’s Department and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
