GARNER, N.C. — A case of road rage in Garner ended in an assault Wednesday morning and a citation for a 77-year-old driver.

Garner police said Ray Owen East followed Jeremy Wayne Kearney, 29, on Ten Ten Road into the parking lot of a grocery store.

East then blocked Kearney and hit him on his arms with what appeared to be a broken mop handle, police said.

Kearney was injured but not seriously, authorities said. East was cited and released.

He's scheduled to appear in court Aug. 20.
