74-year-old charged with DWI after 6 car crash kills 1 in Garner

Authorities said that Tyrone Pugh, 56, of Angier was waiting in a left turn late at the intersection of Vandora Springs Road and Timber Drive at about 3:45 p.m. when he was struck by a 2010 Honda Accord driven by John Bergman of Garner.

GARNER, N.C. — A 74-year-old man was facing DWI charges Thursday after a six-car crash that left one person dead.

Authorities said that Tyrone Pugh, 56, of Angier was waiting in a left turn late at the intersection of Vandora Springs Road and Timber Drive at about 3:45 p.m. when he was struck by a 2010 Honda Accord driven by John Bergman of Garner.

Pugh was taken to WakeMed, where he was pronounced dead. Others involved in the crash were treated for minor injuries.

Bergman was charged with DWI and running a red light.

An investigation into the crash was ongoing. Anybody with information is asked to call Garner police at 919-772-8810.
