What a way for a 73 year old man to die....

This is very sad, and I feel for her family. I am surprised more people are not hit on the major roads in Rocky Mount. Jaywalking is an issue here! If I were not careful, I could hit someone every week due to them trying to cut across instead of crossing at an intersection.

This is such a sad event. The problem is not that people walk in the street, it's that there is no safe crossing on Sunset Avenue. There is a bus stop just a short distance away, used by many who work in the area, yet there is no protected crossing in the area. The city needs to look carefully at pedestrian safety and create safe places for people to cross, particularly in areas such as this one.

It was due to happen. These people walk down the side of the road, not up on the curb on a street that is labeled 45 mph but should be 35 mph due to the traffic and area. I have had a few close calls myself and when it's dark at 8:30pm now, it's even more dangerous.
