70 charged in Durham with DWI over holiday weekend

Posted July 5, 2011

— The North Carolina State Highway Patrol in Durham cited 70 drivers on driving while impaired charges over the extended holiday weekend, the agency said Tuesday.

Nine troopers assigned to the Highway Patrol's Impaired Driving Offenses initiative charged drivers of 69 passenger vehicles and one commercial motor vehicle from Wednesday evening through Monday.

The Durham County office of the state Highway Patrol reallocated officers during the period to provide maximum coverage during late-night hours, when drunken drivers are more likely to be on highways, the agency said.

Why not check on this Speedloader? There were nearly 1200 arrest in Operation Firecracker, and if Durham had 70, then surely Raleigh/Cary had a 100. They were tagged with one of the highest amounts.

Greaat Job Durham, no don't do it every weekend, because it causes traffic back ups. SpeedLoader, are you serious to think there were none given out in Raleigh or Cary, check on the one they had off Glenwood Ave., and they have many in Cary, that aren't posted.

Wow. That is just ridiculous. What in the world gives people the idea that the have the right to risk other people's lives because they cannot manage to live without their alcohol? There are words for people like this, but they aren't printable.

Yep that's a large number. But it still smaller than what it use to be during these road checks.

How could people NOT know that they were out in force this past weekend? It was all over the news and everywhere else, not to mention every time I turned around over the weekend, there were cops at every exit and shadows. I didn't even use mouthwash before I left the house this past weekend because I KNEW they were out there looking for anything they could.
