— The North Carolina Dental Society is staging a free clinic Friday and Saturday at the RBC Center.

The event, called “North Carolina Missions of Mercy,” is offering examinations, x-rays, cleanings, restorations and extractions for anyone over the age of 18 with an income of up to $27,225 per year.

Up to 120 volunteer dentists and dental hygienists are staffing 80 dental chairs from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Patients will be treated on a first-come, first-served basis, with patient registration beginning at 6 a.m. each day.

Patients' pre-screening started Thursday.

Organizers said Thursday that they were still seeking volunteer dentists, dental hygienists and people to help with patient registration, food service, clean up, distribution of supplies and also serve as patient escorts. Spanish language interpreters were also needed.

SOME WELL-DRESSED PEOPLE CAN'T AFFORD DENTAL INSURANCE, THEN EVEN STILL, DEDUCTIBLES ARE HIGH, AND SOME CAN'T AFFORD THE COPAYS. HAD I KNOWN ABOUT THIS EARLIER THAN JUST NOW, I WOULD HAVE SIGNED UP.
YA'LL NEED TO STOP JUDGING PEOPLE, YOU DON'T KNOW PPL'S BACKGROUNDS. AND WHEN YOU ARE DOWN, DON'T COME ASKING FOR HELP, CAUSE NO ONE WILL WANT TO HELP THOSE THAT JUDGE.
EVERYONE ELSE, HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!

"Aren't you judging people when you say that?" -Gregory House MD

Wow, how old are you? I thought name calling occured back in grade school. Get rid of the House persona and grow up. michelleOBAMAsniece wasn't the one who made that comment, so get your facts straight before posting comments.

And I don't see how my being embarrassed about your judgemental comment makes me judgemental. You just saw an individual and made these assumptions when you have NO CLUE what has happened/is going on in that woman's life. Like many have said before: maybe she lost her job and can't afford insurance, but still has nice clothes that she can wear. Unless you know her personally, you have no right to judge.

@JoCo Gun Owner, I’m not sure what you’re talking about, but the U.S. health system is ranked 37th in the world. (France is #1.)

Maybe you meant that the U.S. is the best at wasting money?...because we rank #2 for healthcare cost inefficiency in the world. Was that what you meant?

"I saw one lady on the news who was well dressed, well spoken, and had perfect looking teeth standing in line for her free dental work ...... you gotta wonder...."

Well dressed-you can get nice things at Good Will or at various clothing closet donation sites.
Well spoken-poverty and good grammar are not mutually exclusive.
Perfect looking teeth-There are front teeth and there are back teeth. You can't see someone's whole mouth from a typical shot on TV. Besides, maybe they were in line for preventive maintenance.

Affordability of dental care also is not directly related to having a job. I have a job and have to pay for dental insurance. I am lucky that I have good rates and good insurance because I work for a large company. Not all jobs offer dental insurance, and even if they do, it is not necessarily affordable. As someone else mentioned, Medicare does not cover dental care.
As far as it being embarrassing, we are fortunate that there are people who recognize and acknowl

A special thanks to all the doctors, assistants, and the volunteers!

This is great. Finally, there are people out there that have a heart. There are some of us that work and have no benefits and all our money goes to bills and necessities. It's hard to pay for a dentist or healthcare on top of the normal bills. Anyone that wants to talk negative about what these kind people are doing and the people that are taking advantage of this blessing, are mean. We don't care about your silly opinion. You are the kind of people that are going to be negative about everything. I hope one day you need help and it's there for you.

Thank you for your comment. Took the words right out of my mouth. It's embarrassing how judgemental our society has become.
