RALEIGH, N.C. — WRAL Chief Meteorologist Greg Fishel was the guest of honor Friday as Raleigh’s Inter-Faith Food Shuttle collected donations to restock the pantry for victims of the recent tornadoes and other needy families.

Donations of dry goods, juice, canned meat, cereal, healthy snacks and bottled water can be dropped off until 7 p.m. at 1001 Blair Drive, off Centennial Parkway. An additional collection truck is available at the State Farmer's Market, 1208 Farmers Market Drive.

Cash donations are also being accepted on site. Donors who can't make it to Raleigh can donate via the Food Shuttle website. The Food Shuttle buys in bulk and at tax-free rates to stretch donor dollars.

"Everybody has been wonderful. Thanks to all who have donated. Please, we need more," said Elizabeth Rodgers, outreach coordinator for the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle. "There are a lot of of areas in need and the more you can give, the more we can give them."

Felicia Boose said she heard about the drive during the WRAL Morning News.

“I said, ‘God, I thank you because that would be a blessing to me to be able to bless somebody,’” she said. “I had food in my cupboard, but I also went to the grocery store.”

Volunteers will sort through the donations, which will be used to set up free mobile markets in the areas hit hardest the April 16 tornadoes.

“It’s my duty, I think, to be a responsible citizen and try to help out my neighbors,” Allen Patton said as he donated food.
