Slim-Fast recalling ready-to-go drink products

Posted December 4, 2009

— The maker of the popular diet drink Slim-Fast is recalling all of its ready-to-go drink products in cans.

Unilever United States Inc. is voluntarily recalling the products, sold in stores nationwide, because of possibe contamination with the micro-organism Bacillus cereus, which can cause diarrhea and possibly nausea or vomiting.

The affected products are packaged in paperboard cartons and contain four, six or 12 steel cans that are 11 ounces each. Individual cans are also sold in certain retail outlets.

The recall involves all Slim-Fast Ready-to-Drink products in cans, regardless of flavor, Best-By date, lot code or UPC number.

No other Slim-Fast products, including powdered shakes, meal bars or snack bars, are affected by the recall.

Consumers who have purchased Slim-Fast Ready-to-Drink products in cans are urged to discard them immediately and contact the company at 1-800-896-9479 for a full refund. The consumer services center is open Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. EST.

That probably reported on it because it's such a large recall. I drink one for breakfast everyday (M-F). My weight is fine, it's just quick and easy. All mine got drank (discovered I was out this morning) and I didn't have any problems.

all jokes aside people... if the product goes through your system too fast you wont absorb the nutrients or protein like u should. seems minor but when most people drinking these things as a meal replacement are already suffering from poor nutrition it can be quite dangerous in addition to the usual effects of the bacteria. so no its not all that funny and thats could be why WRAL "singled" it out

Hey WRAL - question for you: I see recalls everyday that affect consumers and are not reported on WRAL. Why are you singling out Slim Fast?

  • rplain Dec 4, 2009

I just tried contacting Slimfast. They have a number on theWRAL link to call, but after a lengthy message, they tell you to contact another number1-800-754-6327. When you call that, you get another lengthy message. It tells you to press pound to talk to a representative, and when you do, it hangs up on you. There's no way to get a live body, I called both numbers twice. So, I emailed them, not very happy by that time. We'll see if I get a call back, but I'm sure as heck not holding my breath.

If you are going to "Slim-Fast", wouldn't you want the "diarrhea and possibly nausea or vomiting." Sounds like the best results one can get when trying to lose weight. Just a thought. :)

Further evidence that if you're going to drink from a can, it should be beer....

At first I read that as a Slim-Jim drink and thought "that's gotta be disgusting"
