Floor Problems
FUQUAY-VARINA, N.C. — Five On Your Side sees many complaints about builder issues. When you build a new home, it can be difficult to get the builder to come back and fix problems as one Fuquay-Varina man found out.

Michael Sinno and his wife moved into their new house in August 2001. Three months later, they noticed a problem with the floor.

"One of the supports underneath the floor was bowed, and it caused the floor to be uneven," he said.

Sinno called the builder, King's Building & Development. Sinno said the company's president, Vaughn King, told him to add the floor problem to the punch list, and he would take care of it when the one-year warranty work was done.

In spring 2003, King hired someone to fix the floor, but he did not do it. It was not until July 2004 that King sub-contracted someone else to fix the floor. The job was never finished.

"I got hung up on. I got stories, excuses, but no action," Sinno said. "This is terrible. We are very distraught."

"All we've ever wanted is to get this taken care of, so we can get back to our normal lives," he said.

After almost seven months of phone calls, Sinno called Five on Your Side.

Five On Your Side called the original builder, Vaughn King. King had his sub-contractor David Downie contact Five On Your Side. He told Five On Your Side he hired a sub, who took the money and ran. But in the end, Downie said he "dropped the ball. There's no good excuse."

A few weeks later, the floor was finally fixed.

"My wife is thrilled and you know, like I said, 'If mama ain't happy, nobody's happy.' She's ecstatic," Sinno said.

Along with the floor, other items needed to be fixed. Sinno said now most of them are complete.
