Who wouldn't love a little extra cash in their pocket?

Hundreds even thousands of dollars could be out there, just waiting for you to claim it, if you know where to look. More Info     Money How to find unclaimed money

For years, 5 On Your Side has been telling you about the millions of dollars held by North Carolina Unclaimed Property database. It's unclaimed money, from places like a forgotten bank account, old paychecks, even insurance premiums. To see if your name is on the list, you just have to go to the website.

"As soon as I went on it, my name popped up," said Toby Blackmon.

After seeing previous stories on missing money, Blackmon decided to search his name. He found it listed, twice, for money he didn't know he was owed.

"I'm unemployed, so it helps out," he said.

The first check arrived for $145. The second check never came so Blackmon called 5 On Your Side for help.

We contacted the state treasurer's office. The check for $1,252 was immediately mailed! "That's good," said Blackmon.

So what does he plan to do with his unexpected windfall? "Pay bills and probably go to the beach," he said.

5 On Your Side's Monica Laliberte asked him what he'd say to anyone at home who might think the search is not worth their time.

"Well, I would say check it," advised Blackmon. "I tell all my friends, you know, to go ahead and check."

To date Five on Your Side has helped viewers collect more than $445,000. Let Monica know if you find any!

so what's the website you go onto to look??? Anyone??

where do you go to check?????? There isn't any information in the article......

I totally agree with you, superman. However, maybe he hasn't taken a vacation in 5 years. I wouldn't fault him for spending $150 for a day trip to the beach.

No job and there must be plenty of bills and he decides to use part of it to go to the beach. Then they wonder why they dont have money. I worked two jobs for over 15 years working 60 hours a week. Everything I have is paid for. Pay off my credit card every month and get cash back. Never found I needed a cell phone either. Some people if they had a million dollars would be broke and homeless in 90 days or less.

This article spurred me to look and sure enough, there was an account with some money that I didn't remember from an address where I lived in the late 1990's. I called them up, filled out the forms and my check is on the way! I looked up my mother and found she was owed some as well on an electric bill from 30 years ago (yes it goes back that far). This is a great service! Everyone should check their names.
