Walgreens drops Express Scripts prescription plan

Posted December 5, 2011

Walgreens, one of the nation's largest drugstore chains, is dropping the Express Scripts prescription plan, effective Jan. 1, after the two companies failed to reach an agreement on a new contract.

The pharmacy benefit management company said Walgreens' prices were much higher than other pharmacies. Walgreens said it couldn't stay profitable under the terms that Express Scripts offered.

Customers on the Express Scripts plan will need to find a new pharmacy that accepts the benefit. Otherwise, they will have to pay retail prices for their prescriptions.

To switch pharmacies, they only need to take their current prescription bottles to their new pharmacy, which will have customer records transferred from Walgreens.

Cape Fear Discount is the best in prices and service!! Walgreens and CVS are the worst in both.

Do you really think they buy the prime real estate and maintain the big box stores by being the cheapest?

You can't pay for those things with discount 2 litre drinks. Pharmacy is where the $$$ are.

I might add, CVS being the worst.
