    katie, Nancy's explanation is why....

    A) I almost never shop at Walgreens

    B) When I do, I hope for a good coupon week so I can spend my RRs on more papers

    C) Absent a good coupon week, I spend them at HT

I heard you can't even buy milk at Walgreens with RRs. Buying milk would be on my list, if that was even possible.

katie - your RR's can be used on another transaction the same day, back to back even if you desire.

There are some oddities you have to remember however. An RR issued by, let's say P&G, cannot be used on any other P&G product if that second product is going to produce another (different) RR.

Also, you cannot have more pieces of paper (coupons, RR's) than the number of items rung into the register or it will beep, refusing the last piece of paper.

Let's say you have 4 items to purchase in one transaction, you have 4 MQ's and one RR you intend to use, you will need a "filler item" which is the cheapest thing you can find in the store usually :) That filler item gives the extra piece of paper something to attach to as far as the register is concerned.

Silly, we know, but it's how their system works.

I hope that isn't too confusing.

Can someone please explain to me how RRs works? What I think I've figured out is you earn them by purchasing certain items, but you can't actually use the ones you earn on the same day, right? When you're subtracting out RRs from the sales price, they've actually been earned at an earlier date. Is that right?

I only got the 'skinny' ones, and was hoping to get the 'fat' Expos. I want them for my DD's school. Oh well...I'm sure they will make do right?

  • Dr D Aug 14, 2011

shelllauren - I found the Expo markers this afternoon at the Walgreens in Durham on Fayetteville Rd, but they did not have very many in stock. I bought two of the "fat" size and they did also have a couple pkgs of the thin size, so at least this store does stock them (a few anyway). They were in the aisle with the markers and crayons in the back half of the store, not up front in the seasonal school supplies area.

They've moved a lot of stuff to new locations in this store recently. They now have a whole aisle of clearance items, which today included a box of MetRx protein bars marked $0.99 each, which meant 2 free with the $2/2 coupon. But I had to ask the cashier to adjust either the price of the bars or the value of the coupon because the register is not programmed to automatically deduct up to the value of a product.

Oh, and I saw 2, 4, and 8 pk markers, but no 6 pks!

  • bmclamb32 Aug 14, 2011

There's also a good deal on Dove products. On sale 4/$15 w/ $5 RR - pairs nicely w/ the BOGO coupons on the his/hers deodorant and shampoo/conditioner.

I went to two different Walgreens today looking for the markers too. At the first store, an employee showed me where they had been (in office supplies), and offered immediately to write me a rain check. I'll be in good shape if they come in before that store coupon expires.

    :-)

They often carry stuff only for back to school that never gets its own space on a real shelf, but it is in the ad on page 6 so they should have had some of them, you would think. Maybe they were already sold out by noon, if they had any to begin with. Had the cashier seen any come through her/his register yet today? Sorry you could not find them.

  • claytonsaver Aug 14, 2011

At the store I shop there are pegs and tags for them in the office supply aisle (not the seasonal school supply area) but no merchandise. I assume there were stocked at one time.
