Carlie C's IGA grocery store in Durham

Posted August 10, 2011

One of our readers wanted me to remind everyone about a somewhat new grocery store in Durham: Carlie C's IGA. They opened up in Durham in March and there are other locations in Angier, Benson, Coats, Dunn, Erwin, Fayetteville, Goldsboro, Hope Mills and Lillington.

If you have shopped at a Carlie C's, let us know what you think.  I don't have a location near me so it is not a store in my usual rotation, but I hear they have some very competitive meat prices.

Location:

Carlie C's IGA
3729 Wake Forest Highway .
Durham, NC 27703

Store Hours:

Monday - Saturday
7am - 10pm

Sunday
8am - 9pm

Click HERE for the Carlie C's website. Click HERE for their coupon policy. They do not double coupons.

I recently moved near the Carlie C’s location in Durham and shopped there a few times. The meat quality I agree is really good. The produce selection did seem to be a little lacking, but overall I thought the store was clean and had good prices. After my super double shopping this week at HT I went Carlie C’s to pick up a few remaining items I didn’t have coupons for…I think I was able to save quite a bit by doing so. I have also had good couponing experiences at Carlie C’s.

As a price conscious shopper if you compare all flyers you can get some good deals. Usually at what others stores offer after your double coupons. The meat department is competitive. Produce is small and limited, couldn't find an eggplant in the joint! Regular prices are high. Nice clean store but I am not feeling it will stay open in the Durham location.

Carlie C's is a fantastic independently owned grocery store. I don't buy meats anywhere but Carlie C's. Their bakery is the best. They have been around for years. I remember going with my Grandparents to this grocery store when I was a little girl. They loved it. You should at least give it a try. They are like a family oriented store.

I have shopped at the Carlie C's in Coats and Angier. Love them! Good associates in both stores, the meat prices are good and the quality is good, and their 9 layer cakes.....oh my goodness. They are good!

I absolutely love the Carlie C's in Durham! I save so much money grocery shopping there than any other grocery store. You can also use coupons there too-internet and coupons from the paper. Sometimes when I go the customer service isn't all that great but I enjoy going there because I save a lot of money!

I live in Benson and quit shopping at this IGA 2 years ago. I got tired of employees poor attitudes. They are more interested in gossiping. Half the time when I was there shopping items didn't ring up at the correct price. Especially sale items. Really had to watch everything ring up when in line. Just don't like 'em anymore.

I've done mystery shops at many of the Carlie C's in the area, from just west of I-95 and south to Sanford and East to Lillington area.

The associates are great, no doubt about it. They're independently owned so standards can vary from store to store. A couple of them were quite dirty (floor, very dusty goods on shelves, out dated baby food by several months etc).

So it depends on how committed the owner of the store is.

I totally agree on the meat department comments! Great prices and really fresh selection of butchered meats!

I grew up in Dunn where Carlie C's started. It is locally operated by great people. The stores are range in size and they actually opened some locations in former Winn-Dixie locations. Please go by and check them out. They are known for having a great meat dept and locally grown produce. They also have weekly sales like everyone else and are comparable to Food Lion in their pricing.

I have to agree withi jdixon2. The 9-layer chocolate cake is wonderful! It's like the old-time "runny" chocolate cakes my grandmother used to make. I shop the carlie C's in Goldsboro on occasion. The employees are great and sale items are always in stock. I do wish they doubled coupons. No one in Goldsboro does! We don't have HT or LF.

I shop the new Carlie's in Durham occasionally. Their meat is very good and reasonably priced. I have had the meat manager special cut me pork chops, pork shoulder and short ribs and they were cut exactly to order and very fresh. His name is Walter and he's great. The store is small and doesn't carry everything, but the staff is pleasant and very helpful. And yes, their 9 layer cake is something very special!
