Sara Lee bread for .90 at Lowes Foods with coupon!

Posted June 4, 2011

Lowes Foods has Sara Lee Soft & Smooth Whole Grain White bread on sale for $1.99 this week.  At my local store, there were coupons on the bread for .55/1 loaf which doubled. The total was only .90 per loaf after coupon!  I bought 4 loaves and used 4 coupons. I then put 2 loaves in the freezer when I got home. I also like that there is no high fructose corn syrup in this bread.

I hope your Lowes Foods has the same coupons on the bread. FYI - the Lowes I shopped today was the one at Middle Creek Commons off Hwy 42 and Hwy 50 in the 40/42 area.

jdouglas13-I am looking for mix in machine & bake in oven recipes. We love it crusty & are open to anything. I have the Martha Stewart baking & an King Arthur one but haven't experimented much. I do however make a kill Polish Babka. No I haven;t tried the rustic no knead but remember seeing it in a magazine. How is it? Thanks

Thanks Faye!! I got mine yesterday - all the loaves of the Sara Lee bread at the Clayton/Highway 70 store had the coupons! Thank you!

Boomer, what kind of bread recipes would you like? Most of mine are "mix in the bread machine - bake in the oven varieties". If you like a good rustic crusty bread, have you tried the no-knead bread?

Ladies thanks for the info. Love King Arthur's catalog & will try the recipe. Any other good bread machine recipes? We too moved from NY & are having a terrible time getting bread we like & I refuse to pay $3 a loaf.

jdouglas, you'll have to post what you find :) I won't be able to get there until July - but I want to, I'm sure I'll find all sorts of wonderful kitchen "things" LOL Probably forget about looking for the bun making divider too no less ;)

Nancy - thanks!! I can't wait to go shopping!

April, here is a link for the basic version of the buns that I make:

I make them in the breadmaker on the dough cycle, add 1 teaspoon of dried onion flakes, and omit brushing them with the melted butter. Instead, I brush them with a beaten egg mixed with a tiny bit of salt before baking.

These buns freeze really well, so I make a big batch at once, split them, wrap them individually in plastic wrap, and then freeze them in a big ziploc bag. I have to warn you -- if you try this recipe, you will never be able to go back to supermarket burger/hot dog rolls! :)

jdouglas - we've been baking our breads over here too. I'd love to see your bun recipe if you didn't mind sharing :)

jdouglas, there is a restaurant supply store down on South Saunders Street :) It's awesome! I would never have known it was there either had I not had to go there to get some items for a restaurant once years ago. But they are still there:

I've been making bread for years, I have tons of good recipes too, all from the internet :)

    I have a bread maker, Nancy. :-)

FYI - I just saw the .55/1 Sara Lee bread coupons at my local Food Lion as well. I ran by there to pick up some fruits and veggies and saw the coupons. The bread is $1.99 at Food Lion this week as well so after coupon (which does not double at FL) = $1.44 (it's a better deal at Lowes Foods).

Nancy, King Arthur Flour sells a hot dog bun pan if I remember correctly. I make all of our bread and rolls too. I have a really yummy and easy recipe that works for hamburger and hot dog rolls that I'd be glad to share.

Now where is there a restaurant supply? I've been looking all over since I moved to NC years ago! That's like one of my favorite kinds of stores ever! :)
