Did you know that more than 270,000 children in our 34 counties are in the free and reduced breakfast and lunch programs at school? For many of them, summertime means that they don't have enough to eat. You can help by participating in the 2011 Summer Stock program hosted by the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina on June 2!

According to the Food Bank website, "the six-week campaign helps to fill the empty shelves of Food Bank warehouses in Durham, Greenville, New Bern, Raleigh, Sandhills and Wilmington during the summer."

Here are some more details from their website about the June 2 event: "Kids Summer Stock will kick off on June 2 with two Social Media Mixers in Raleigh and Wilmington. Enjoy food, drinks and the chance to win great prizes, including an Apple iPad (Raleigh event) and autographed Hurricanes items (Wilmington/Raleigh events.) Both are free and open to the public. Learn more and register today!"

Be sure to bring some food donations if you attend the event!
