Harris Teeter deals 4/6

Strawberries are HERE!!! My favorite deal at Harris Teeter this week is a pound of strawberries for $1.25! That is a stock up and freeze price! Other good deals include a decent meal deal, .47/lb chicken leg quarters, McCormick Vanilla Extract and various Buy 2 Get 3 deals! Did I mention that strawberries are on sale?!

Harris Teeter Coupon Policy Basics:

Doubles coupons .99 or less everyday

Doubles up to 20 coupons per day

Doubles up to 3 identical coupons (must have required product to go with each coupon)

BOGO sales ring up at half price. If you just buy one, it still rings up at half price. The policy states that you can only use ONE coupon on a BOGO deal. So, if you buy 2 items that are BOGO, you can only use one coupon total.

Senior discount: Seniors 60 and older receive a 5% discount every Thursday. Discount applies after coupons are deducted.

e-coupons: Don’t forget to add the e-coupons to your Harris Teeter VIC card and remember, you can stack the e-coupons with manufacturer coupons to maximize savings. The link to your e-coupons are in your Wednesday e-Vic e-mail.

There is also a coupon for .75/2 Ball park hot dogs from 3/27 so if you buy 2 Ball parks (on sale BOGO – use that coupon)

Local produce from NC Green Market in downtown Raleigh. $20-21 per week subscription buys you a box of locally grown produce weekly for 4-25 weeks. This week I got 2 gigantic sweet potatoes, 1 cabbage (BIG), 1 bunch baby kale, baby collards, small bunch asparagus, 2 turnips (rutabagas?), strawberries. Thanks, Faye! Tylenol is getting pretty low and the reg. price of the Advil was $4.49 so I thought the $1.49 was acceptable. Still have 3 of these coupons to use on a better deal though!

batey - You are right - the Advil is usually something you can find for 80% off or better from the drug stores. Don't beat yourself up because you bought it at 50% off. Hopefully the 24 caplets will last long enough for you to wait for an even better deal next time.

I agree jzka - none of the items are free according to the ad so the coupon should have been accepted.

My kids liked the strawberries tonight and I am leaving them out to ripen a little longer.

jdouglas, I wash, dry, cut the tops off and freeze the berries. I then use them, as LAX mom suggested in smoothies, fruit topping for angel food cake, pancakes, cheesecake. I have never sliced them before freezing so no first hand experience there.

Question for the experts... Is the Advil (24 ct. caplets) a good deal this week? It's $2.99 - $3/2 coupon works out to be $1.49 each. I thought it looked like a good deal and got them but went into it knowing that I could probably get a better deal at a drug store (maybe even free with RR). So, give it to me straight....

Shug...I'm going to try it later this week, but if my Q doesn't scan, I will have a copy of the ad with me - it doesn't state that any of the meal deal items are "free" this week.

Re: California strawberries...Agreed. They don't even usually smell like strawberries, more like a cheap strawberry air freshener. They are only tolerable with sugar :(

Went to HT for the Meal Deal, strawberries, and the extract BOGO. Strawberries at my HT were from California - ugh. I don't like those, they are always white inside. I'll try again later - maybe they'll restock with some from Florida. My Q wouldn't scan for the chips. The cashier said it was because the chips were "free" with the meal deal. I didn't question it because I had never done a meal deal before, but when I looked at the receipt, there is just VIC savings on each item, so I paid $1.43 for the chips. I wish I had asked her to try scanning it again, because sometimes they don't scan the first time.

The $.70/1 coupon from 3/27/11 RP makes the Frosted Mini Wheats $.34 each! (Touch of Fruit in the middle only) Or you can buy 3, use 2 $.70 off 1 coupons and pay $2.42 including a free gallon of milk (through Saturday).

Faye, how do you freeze your strawberries? Whole, sliced, macerated? I'm looking for the best method to avoid freezer burn.

On a side note, I really needed to get some strawberries yesterday, and paid $2 at HT after a $1 coupon. It is killing me that today they are 4/$5! My nearest HT is 30 miles away, so it's not like I'm just going to hop back in the car just for the berries with gas at who knows what price today :(

The pick your own strawberry farms will be opening very soon.

ms - Frozen strawberries are best, in my opinion, in smoothies, strawberry shortcake, other cooked items. The texture after thawing is not as firm as when they are fresh, but they still taste like fresh strawberries.

I got a crazy question - if i slice and freeze my strawberries will they still hold the same taste? I have never froze them before but I really love to eat them.
