Can you help a reader find nice 2nd hand clothing shops for women?

Posted January 26, 2011

One of our readers has asked if we know of any nice shops for women's second hand clothing. Can you help her out? Where do you recommend?

Here is her request:

"I have been trying to locate nice 2nd hand stores that offer women’s clothing. There doesn’t seem to be as many around as there used to be and all the media attention seems to go towards kids’ consignment stores. If you know of any good shops in the Wake, Durham, Granville or Franklin County area, I’d love to share! Any help you can give me and my mother would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks again for your time."

While you are making recommendations, include any women's second hand shops you recommend anywhere in the Triangle including Johnston County as well.

Thanks for any help you can offer!

Paws for the cause- further into raleigh at Dawson
Plato's retreat in Poyner place north Raleigh-for twenty's thru thirty's women
(Don't know the name) in the same shopping center as Lifestyle family fitness off of capital at Old wake forest Rd. "Plantation" something.
Good Will is all over the place. They're listed as GCF Goodwill community foundation.
(Don't know the name) and North Raleigh Ministries both have shops by the motor vehicle bureau off of Atlantic and old wake forest rd. There is also a Tuesday Mornings in there.
Sorry I don't have specific info but you can probably do some sleuthing. Also try craigs list. Happy hunting

Fancy That in Downtown Clayton on Main Street has beautiful clothes on consignment. Everything from casual to professional to formal. Several doors down Main Street there is also the Harbor House Pizzaz Consignment Shop which has upscale consignment also and all proceeds benefit the Battered Women's Shelter.

OMG...I love consignments and I frequent Angie's Classy Creations in the shopping center at the corner of Spring Forest Rd and Atlantic Avenue in North Raleigh. There is also Champagne Taste in the same shopping center...they have a huge selection. I wear mostly consignment clothes and have lots of REALLY nice clothes and people can't believe I purchased them from a consignment. I even have a D&B pocketbook I got for $30...brand new with tags! I also go to a shop in Falls River shopping center off Durant Rd in North Raleigh called My Neighbors Closet (or my Friend's Closet...I can never remember) They have the nicest things but are a lot more expensive. They are only open Wed - Sat which is inconvenient. This store was created by a group of women from Wakefield....and they really have some BEAUTIFUL clothes. I try to go through all of these stores about once a month...just to browse....sometimes not getting anything and then sometimes I really find quite a lot!

cmk617 posted the 75% Belk sale a few days back - it's so on at the Crabtree Valley Mall! I also stopped by the Cary Towne Center on my way home a few days ago, but their selection is waaaay smaller.

I made my 1st trip to MFC in downtown Apex today as it was so highly recommended below. I must say, it's a cool shop! I didn't make a purchase due to sticker shock, but everything is VERY nice and worth it if you're prepared to pay $15-175 per item. They do have a sale room and the owner said there will be a winter clearance event sometime in the next week or can sign up for their mailing list for sale notification.
